SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. — After dozens of residents spoke out against the dam removals and in support of declaring a local state of emergency at their last meeting, Siskiyou County Supervisors held a special meeting Tuesday to look into the impact the process has had. There, overwhelmingly, residents spoke out against the dam removals and for the state of emergency. Citing not only concerns about water quality but also a lack of fire suppression as we move into fire season.
"Who's going to be responsible for the cleanup of the silt that is going down river? Because they keep saying they put more water in up river to wash the silt downriver. Well, downriver is a long way," said one concerned resident.
